From paper rosters to one ledger.
Bistro Bontje is a family business on the Dutch coast with more than thirty brigade members on staff. Two venues by the sea, one in preparation. Until 2024 it ran on paper, email and a handful of Excel files.
What began as "our own platform" has since been tenant #1 of Hops — and the lab every other venue benefits from.

Paper & email
- Scheduling
- Paper on the kitchen wall. Changes via WhatsApp, not always applied before service.
- Tips
- Email with an Excel attachment, manually distributed across the brigade once a week.
- Hours
- Excel file, two tabs, one per venue. Monthly back-and-forth with the accountant.
- HACCP
- Clipboard with temperature lists — often only filled in on Friday for the whole week.
- Cash close
- Paper form, photographed, emailed to the owner. Only in the system by Sunday.

One platform
- Scheduling
- Drag-and-drop in the app. Changes ping the relevant brigade directly in TeamChat.
- Tips
- Automatically distributed by hours worked. Brigade sees their share real-time in the app.
- Hours
- Clock-in/clock-out on the phone. Export to the accountant with one click.
- HACCP
- Temperature logs digital, time-stamped. Allergens per dish in the kitchen module.
- Cash close
- Photo of the receipt form → OCR → read into the finance module. Ready for the accountant.
Three softly-measured effects.
Estimates based on owner feedback and internal survey — not a certified audit. We'd rather be honest about a range than precise in a marketing figure.
- ~6 h
- per week back to the owner
- −80%
- fewer manual corrections in hours export
- Higher
- brigade satisfaction with tip distribution
estimate based on owner feedback on scheduling, hours and tip administration
measured Q1 2026 vs. Q1 2025; clock-in/out replaces manual Excel entry
internal survey of the brigade; transparent per hour instead of weekly tier
I get about half a working day back each week. No more email back-and-forth over hours corrections, no "who has the schedule?" on Sunday night. The ledger checks out, and the brigade sees for themselves what they've earned.
